You should check out this link:

http://www.wps1.org/new_site/
component/option,com_alphacontent/
section,98/cat,25/Itemid,187/

There you can listen to a couple lectures he gave in 1960 about criticism and the "plight of the public." Great stuff.Dibblyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07446711474654300281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8813072366259328821.post-13786869326400968082008-11-12T00:29:00.000-05:002008-11-12T00:29:00.000-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Dibblyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07446711474654300281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8813072366259328821.post-65496256067198980512008-11-10T21:30:00.000-05:002008-11-10T21:30:00.000-05:00Good words.Good words.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8813072366259328821.post-38507829500589232172008-04-25T18:35:00.000-04:002008-04-25T18:35:00.000-04:00"Is this a new trend in art criticism and art hist..."Is this a new trend in art criticism and art history?"

Steinberg is perfectly right that his approach to reading "Oh Say Can You See" has been the case with reading. Cf. Lacan, "The Ethics of Psychoanalysis" and "Four Fundamental Concepts of Psychoanalysis." Scholars and critics have always seen what they want - or indeed wish - to see. Citing earlier authorities is often a way of escape from individual responsibility to intellectual rigor. Such scholarly escape reduces the burden of blame, which is then shared with the referential - if reverred - historical master. Plagiarism in critical scholarship works in mysterious ways, because it is often a respectable and certified process by which the student-scholar perennially pillages the grand work of the master - that is, grand/father - until he or she is destroyed by undevelopment and unoriginality. Steinberg's originality in this particular instance is that he helps us see from a fresh light the historical misadventure of American patriotism.

ObiwuObiwuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04806289888008588870noreply@blogger.com
